How to use it
- Open your form's official notice and find the photo and signature rules: the size, the file-size range in KB and anything about the background.
- Choose your Form. If it isn't listed, pick Custom: my own pixels and KB range and type the numbers from the notice.
- Drop your photo, or a photo or scan of your signature on white paper. One file at a time.
- Drag the box over your face, or tightly around the signature. For signatures, leave Make the paper white ticked so grey paper and shadows turn white.
- Press Make the file, check the size on the result line, then press Download and upload it to the form.

Notices don't say whether a KB is 1000 or 1024 bytes. The tool stays safe either way: it aims above the minimum × 1024 bytes and under the maximum × 1000 bytes.
When a form wants a bigger file
Some forms set a minimum, such as 20–50 KB, and a small, sharp photo can come out under it. The tool first saves at the highest JPG quality that still fits the maximum. If the file is still too small, it adds a block of empty comment text inside the JPG to reach the minimum. The picture doesn't change, and image viewers ignore the comment; it sits after the JPG's usual header, where upload checks don't look.
That's different from making the photo blurry or bigger on purpose, which some websites suggest: it keeps your photo exactly as sharp as it was.
Signatures, thumb prints and handwriting
- Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper, as the notices ask.
- Take the picture in daylight, straight from above, without your hand's shadow on the page. A scan is even better.
- Crop tightly around the signature: empty paper around it makes the signature tiny on the form.
- Make the paper white turns grey paper and light shadows white and makes the ink darker. It doesn't redraw or change your signature.
Forms this tool leaves out on purpose
Some authorities don't let you edit the photo at all, so a resizer would get it refused. The SSC takes your photo live during the application and forbids photographing an existing photo. The US passport online renewal asks for the original, unedited photo, and Ireland's online passport photo must not be digitally altered. For the UK and Canada, see passport and visa photo size.
Questions
- Will the form accept my file?
- The tool gets the pixels, the format and the file size right. Whether your face, background and signature meet the rules is checked by the authority, so follow its notice. If a notice for your year changed the numbers, use Custom: my own pixels and KB range.
- How do I resize a photo to between 20 and 50 KB?
- Choose a form with that range, or Custom: my own pixels and KB range with Min KB 20 and Max KB 50. The tool lands inside the range by itself; you don't need to try different qualities.
- Can I do the photo and the signature in one go?
- One file at a time: make the photo, download it, then choose the signature in Form and drop the signature picture.
- Is the photo uploaded anywhere?
- No. Everything happens in your browser, and the JPG is saved without photo details such as location. See how to check it yourself.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. Take the photo or signature picture with the camera, choose it here, adjust the box with your finger and download the file.
